Throwing up sucks.
How do I know this? Because I spent all of last night doing it. No, I hadn’t been out partying (I wish!), I had another bloody tummy bug.
They don’t warn you about that in antenatal class do they? That growing a human simultaneously erodes your immune system, leaving you open to every bug, bacteria, and virus known to man.
Before having kids I was rarely ill. I went to the gym four or five times a week. I could easily make it through the whole day without falling asleep on the couch, mouth open, string of drool dangling from one side…
But motherhood has stolen my health.
There’s no time for the gym anymore, and no money to spend on organic antioxidant blueberries grown hydroponically on the side of an Tibetan mountain.
Night after night of broken sleep has worn me down, like a drip of water eventually wears through rock. Dark circles have taken up residence under my eyes, my shoulders are permanently slumped forward, and that little furrow between my eyes has become the Grand Canyon.
I’m a shell of my former self.
They also fail to warn you that kids are virtually virus magnets. A soon as your little one is old enough to socialise, little Jimmy will sneeze all over them at the soft play centre. These bugs get carted straight back home to you – like disease home delivery.
Since embarking on my motherhood journey I’ve lurched from virus, to vomiting bug, and back again. I dream of the day when I’ll be able to return to the gym, build up my strength and my battered immune system, and quit with all the puking.
Until then, pass the sick bucket, will you?
• read about our funny kids fails, or the time Big Sis wanted her poo-poo pants (not as horrific as it sounds)

I have it too 🙁 all three of us (me, big monkey and little monkey) chucking up together. Ah family bonding boo hoo.
*Passes bucket* Oh dear! Not good! I’m the same, I couldnt be bulimic, I cant stand throwing up, I had a hideous bug back at the start of summer and couldnt keep anything down for 48 hours, it was horrible.
Hope your feeling better soon! I’m waiting to come down with the cold J is currently off nursery with, I know it will happen its just a case of when!
See I always think of these horrid illnesses as 5 pounds I didn’t have to sweat off at the gym! Think positively. What doesn’t kill you…
There just seems to be so much going around at the moment!!! I think I’ll take the advice of I’m So Fancy, look for the silver lining, and view it as an alternative diet plan! 🙂
