A WINDSWEPT WELSH WEEKEND // getting back to nature (and looking great while doing it)

It all started over a bottle of wine with friends; for some reason the topic of Wales came up, and before we knew it we’d made a pact to take our families to Snowdonia to climb Mount Snowdon. Like you do.

As fate would have it the girls and I had just been sent some kids’ outdoor clothing to review from new autumn range at LIGHTHOUSE. We were lucky enough to try out some of their children’s raincoats earlier this year (you can read about them HERE), so I’d already fallen in love with their perfect blend of fashion and functionality.

I chose the Ella cloud print raincoat and the Lottie turquoise fleece, and told the girls they could decide between themselves who had which. But they ended up loving both of them, so decided they would share both the styles. For myself, I opted for the classic Reva style, in a delicious autumnal shade of plum.

When we arrived in Snowdonia the weather was fine, but you could definitely feel an autumn chill in the air. We were staying in a B&B that had once been horse stables (they’d even kept the stable-style hinged doors), and were surrounded by lush green fields and grazing sheep.

We were so deep into the Welsh countryside we didn’t even have wifi – which was panic-inducing at first, but turned out to be a lovely excuse to truly switch off and relax.

The girls were desperate to explore, so we zipped them up in their kids’ outdoor jackets and went for a wander…

The next day we woke up, ready for our climb up Mount Snowdon climb (well, the girls and I were going to catch the train to the summit, then walk down) to find gale force winds hadn’t just shut the railway down, they were literally blowing people off their feet as they walked up the mountain.

Nevertheless, we decided to walk a little way up, so at least we could say we’d been on the mountain even if we didn’t make it to the top!

It was stop-you-in-your-tracks windy, and we didn’t that far before we had to turn back, but we actually really enjoyed ourselves. We were all snug and warm in our Lighthouse jackets, and the views were breathtaking.
