Motherhood – Sticky Fingers Gallery
I mulled over this week’s Sticky Fingers Gallery prompt ‘Motherhood’ for ages, before deciding on this photo. This is why this particular picture floated to the top:
It was taken on a catamaran trip during our recent family holiday to St Lucia. The little one had been socialising like a demon, charming the other tourists, dancing with the boat crew, and swimming in the ocean with Daddy. Then, like a wind-up toy, she suddenly ground to a halt. This symbolises Motherhood to me, for several reasons. I love that she’s completely surrendered against me, totally trusting me to keep her safe, and warm. She’s not the most affectionate of kids, so I love that I’m getting a sneaky cuddle too. What I also remember is that I was really, REALLY uncomfortable. The seats were rock-hard moulded plastic, so my back was aching, my baby bump was getting squished, and my arms were cramping up from holding her on the little lap I have left. Yet I sat there for half an hour, scarcely daring to breathe in case I woke her up, secretly adoring every painful, muscle-wrenching moment.

Lovely photo and I really know what you mean about the pain but not wanting to disturb the moment of that lovely cuddle. :0)
Gorgeous! Those grabbed moments are so magical! I know just what you mean. Lovely.
What a perfect photo and great explanation!! The things we do to kep our little ones well! x
That sums it up for me too. When my little one wakes in the middle of the night because of teething, the best thing about it is being able to cuddle her and settle her down so she can go back to sleep. It’s my favourite thing to do in the whole world.
Nova: She’s always been fiercely independent, so it’s just so lovely when she concedes that she actually needs her Mummy.
Christine: Isn’t it amazing how one cuddle instantly cancels out a dozen tantrums?
Maggy: I never actually thought I had it in me to put someone’s needs so far ahead of mine – and actually enjoy it too!
The Moiderer: My little one has taken to waking about 3am, coming into bed for a 10-minute cuddle before heading back to her bed. I know I shouldn’t encourage her, but I kinda love it!!!
I love the picture, but most of all, your text
That’s a part of motherhood ! wishing something painful never stops, because it gives you time with your child, and makes you feel so strog, and so full of love
I wish now my girl is back from school ! I need a hug !
Sister 3: Isn’t it funny what you’ll put up with for your children that you wouldn’t tolerate from anyone else? Hope you got a nice hug from your little one when she got home!! x
What a lovely post, I love the shot which reminds me when I was holding Isabelle in a similar postition on a plane to Crete last week 😉
