I love my job every day, but today I really, really, REALLY love my job!
OH and I had a pile of Virgin air miles (they clock up pretty quickly when all your family live on the other side of the world!!) and suddenly realised we had to use them before they expired next year.
Plus, we’d just found out we were having another baby. So we also knew this would also be our last chance to get away before our lives were turned inside out again by a demanding newborn.
We looked at a few of their destinations and quickly decided that we wanted (needed) a beach holiday where I could just spend the days lazing by the pool in my maternity tankini, and balmy nights eating and enjoying ocean views.
Big Sis is still under two, so she would fly free. We worked out we had enough miles to get all of us over to St Lucia, but when we did the figures we couldn’t just couldn’t afford accommodation, on top of the time off (we’re both self-employed, so no holiday pay – boo!).
It was looking like a washout, until I was contacted by the lovely Sam Hook, the MD of Unique Thinking PR.
I’m a regular reviewer for the Family Fun Guide website, so she wondered whether I might be interested in a press trip with one of her clients, the Windjammer Landing villa beach resort in St Lucia.
They’re celebrating their 20th anniversary this year with some fantastic deals and discounts.
A quick look at their website, and I couldn’t say yes quickly enough! Not only do they have amazing suites and villas, swimming pools, palm trees, and their own private beach, they are one of the most family friendly luxury resorts I’ve seen in my years as a features and travel journalist.
There’s a kids’ club for children aged 4-12, and a separate club for teens. But what caught my eye was the Nanny service. OH and I are already looking forward to enjoying a few evening meals on our own, knowing that Big Sis is in safe, professional hands.
There are five gorgeous looking restaurants to choose from, and nightly entertainment which includes live Calypso music, and fire dancers.
So we’re heading off at the end of May for seven tropical nights, and I’m already counting the minutes till we leave.
Time to dig out my summer clothes and, more importantly, my bottle of fake tan. If they see my legs in their current pasty white condition, we might be refused entry at immigration!!!
Have you got any summer hols lined up?? Where are you going, why, and when??

Sounds lovely, you lucky things. Love what you say about a demanding newborn. I thought that, but my second couldn’t have been easier. I’m sure they are generally easier as you can’t quite remember why the first seemed SO hard. Anyway good luck!
Can Poppa Linz come too? 🙂
It’s a Mummy’s Life: I’m pleased to hear you say that – I always figured that number 2 would have to be easier, purely because you know what you’re doing second time around, and you’ve already got all your routines in place, and all the baby gear you need, etc. That’s my theory, anyway…
Poppa Linz: Hmmmm…. extra babysitter that won’t cost us a penny… Sure! Come along!!
How fab is that! We’ve been to St Lucia a few times now and it’s one of my favourite islands. Have fun! x
Liz: I can’t wait!!!! Actually, I was just thinking, and the last time I travelled to the Caribbean was when I got assigned a Cuba press trip at Real magazine!! In fact, I think you might have even given it to me… That was nearly eight years ago – definitely time for another visit!!! xx
You will love Windjammer. The nanny’s are top notch! We go every year and got married there when our little one was 11 months old. We are not the type to ever leave our kids with anyone but felt very secure about the nannies because we go back every year and get to know them. This year we are looking forward to the little one being old enough to go to the kids club.
We do a lot of travelling with our kids. I should do a blog about our travels! I’ve got a lot of great advice…most inportant piece being load up on dollar store toys!!!!
Cheers.
Anon: Now you’ve made me even more excited! It’s reassuring to hear you confirm that it’s so kid-friendly – I know Lucia is just going to love it!!! x
