Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m completely accident prone. I’m not talking comedy falls, and Frank Spencer-style mishaps – I mean broken bones, snapped ligaments, and cracked ribs, usually while on holiday/at a party/on my birthday/coming up to Xmas, etc.
Over the weekend I dislocated my shoulder. Again. For the fifth time. The time before it happened during a 10,000 ft skydive. Painful, sure, but at least it had a cool-sounding back story. This time round it was yanked out of its joint by a rude man shoving past me in a crowded bar. Painful AND bloody ridiculous. The shoulder was put back after a few hours, but the after effects are now driving me nuts (try dressing a wriggling 16-month-old, or putting on a fitted cot sheet with just one arm). By far the biggest challenge has been nappy changing, but yesterday I was feeling pretty smug after successfully changing my little girl single handedly (literally), and putting her down for her nap.
Half-an-hour later I poked my head in her room and spotted something strange through the gloom. Something round, and pinkish, was poking out of her cot. ‘What the..?’ I muttered, taking a few steps closer. Then I realised – it was her bare backside waving in the air (she sleeps on her tummy with her bum sticking up). The nappy I thought I’d so cleverly secured was scrunched uselessly beside her. The sheet was soaked from where nature had taken its inevitable course. So, I had to wake her up, wrench off her wet bedding, and fumble about for another 10 minutes putting on the replacement nappy. By this time the poor little thing was screaming her head off. I’ll never take my two hands for granted again!

Oh no! You poor thing. I used to do dance and one of the guys in my company used to dislocate both of his shoulders. He used tubigrips to support them. You’ve probably tried that. Hope it gets better soon.
Jeez, I thought one shoulder was bad! I’m cringing for your poor friend. Now I’m actually feeling quite lucky…
… so am I! It was bad enough with a broken hand last November. And before that, the only thing I’ve dislocated was my little finger. You have my infinite sympathy!
BAH HAHAHAHA… and how many times did i pick up the broken pieces, smashed nose after falling down the metal staircase of a very popular bar ON new years eve was a personel fav!
