I haven’t done one of these for a while – purely through lack of time, not for lack of amazing, wonderful, deserving people.
I’ve known who I wanted to recognise for weeks now – since BritMums Live, to be exact. And I KNOW you’ll agree that this woman totally, utterly, completely, one squillion percent worthy of a little something that says: ‘We think you’re bloody fab!’.
Hayley, who writes the inspirational blog DOWNS SIDE UP, had an entire roomful of women sobbing into their party napkins as she recounted the birth of her beautiful daughter Natty, who was diagnosed at birth with Down’s Syndrome.
She had us gasping at some of the shocking attitudes she encountered after the birth, bawling at her own emotional roller coaster, and grinning like loons to hear how Natty has gone on to totally turn the public’s perception of Down’s Syndrome on its ear.
Not only does she write her great blog, Hayley has become a tireless and influential spokesperson for Down’s Syndrome, offering advice, education, and valuable words of comfort. Most recently, she has taken up the mantle of Special Needs Editor for BritMums. Does this woman ever sleep?!
