HOLDING BACK THE YEARS (transform)

Another birthday is looming and – I’ve got to be honest – they don’t hold nearly as much appeal as they used to. I love the ‘knowing more stuff and being more confident’ part; the wrinkles and the face slowly creeping south… not so much.

I’ve tried a few non-surgical treatments over the years, and have always been pleased with the results. I know the subject divides people, but I suspect that’s because people mistakenly assume Botox and fillers only ever result in that hideous frozen Hollywood face.

In my experience, when administered in moderation and by properly trained professionals, you can achieve a really natural look – one that just leaves you looking refreshed and rested, rather than so puffed and paralysed you can’t drink though a straw without dribbling (yes, that happened to someone I know who went against advice, and overindulged).

I recently went to a bloggers’ evening hosted by TRANSFORM, who pride themselves on providing treatments carefully tailored to each individual. In addition to Botox, and lip fillers, they also demonstrated a completely non-invasive treatment called Ultherapy. If you’re wary of needles, or want a natural treatment, this could be the answer for you.

In (very) layman’s terms, it works by delivering ultrasound to the deeper layers of your skin to encourage the production of collagen – the skin-plumping protein that decreases as you age, and results in that tired, saggy look. So it’s basically your own body, healing your own body!

Yes, it’s more expensive than Botox, but it also lasts a lot longer – the effects build up over time as the collagen in your skin increases, so you can enjoy the results for many months – even years if you’re really lucky – as opposed to the three or four months maximum of Botox. Sounds pretty amazing to me.

PS: Next year I’ll be trialling some of the treatments I feel will be of interest to my fellow 40 plus’ers (holla!) so make sure you sign up to my mailing list and follow me on @Jax2000 if you want the DL on my non-surgical adventures.
