BARBIE – BE SUPER!

BARBIE Be Super

Even if you weren’t aware of the significance of yesterday, you might have felt a little different somehow. Safer, more protected; invincible, even.

Because 28 April was National Superhero Day – a day when ordinary mortals are transformed into extraordinary beings. To demonstrate, may I present to you Super Sis, and the Hooded Hero – Defenders of the Living Room!

Do not be deceived by the toothy grins – when the superhero situation demands a core of inner steel, these girls can deliver the ‘don’t mess with me’ toughness…

BARBIE Be Super

To celebrate the super day in style the girls threw a ‘Be Super’ party, inviting three of their friends over to watch the newest Barbie movie with some pizza and popcorn (what else?!).

But that wasn’t all – the marvellous Mattel team also sent over the new PRINCESS POWER dolls Kara, Corinne and Zooey, to play with AND a pile of colouring books for some VERY EXCITED girls to enjoy. I learned three things that afternoon: five squealing girls can break the sound barrier, they can eat half their body weight in pizza, and Barbie is a feminist.

Barbie Be Super

Say what? I hear you say, but hear me out: sure, she’s often a princess and wears a lot of pink, and her body dimensions are more Victoria’s Secret model than regular girl, BUT she’s also had every career under the sun, including Madam President, soccer player, Olympic athlete, and Mars Explorer astronaut.

Her movies always portray her as a strong, empathetic character, and each one results in her achieving a dream, or uncovering a moral to the story (be kind, be true to yourself, never give up); messages that I’m more than happy for my girls to see and hear.

Thanks Mattel for our #BeSuper Princess Power party!
