We made the most of the tail end of summer last weekend, with a trip to the local woods.
It’s one of our favourite spots and we hadn’t been in a while, so we were all excited to pull on our Wellington boots and go wandering. As we walked along the overgrown trails we spotted the autumn blackberries were plump and glistening, and just had to stop and pick some.
One of my favourite childhood memories is picking these juicy berries from the local gully; we’d collect bagfuls of them, then take them home for Mum to bake into blackberry and apple pie. These, however, went straight from bush to mouth; by the end of our walk the girls’ faces were stained with purple berry juice.
They can’t wait for our next wild berry wanderings.

Nothing better than freshly picked berries – and they’re free!
We often go blackberry picking, and have loads along the canal near Rickmansworth. Come and join us sometimes!
