It’s that time of year again, when I vow to get more organised.
But this time round I’m trying something a little different; rather than just talking about sorting my life out, I’m going to actually do it. Crazy, I know, but it might just work.
To aid me in my success I have several tools. Firstly, a planner. It might sound obvious, but I bought three or four different (pricey!) varieties last year, only to conclude that a simple spiral-bound week-by-week notebook worked best for me.
Next, a desk. I’ve worked from home for 11 years now, but after the girls were born I sacrificed my office for their bedroom. I spent the next five years working from the end of the kitchen table but finally got my workspace back a couple of months ago. Yay.
A new laptop. My hard drive on my old one failed a month after I got it, and although it was repaired it never quite worked properly afterwards. Using it was like running through treacle and I lost count of the number of times I wanted to fling it out of the window, like a big, silver frisbee. This one, comparatively, is heaven and I can get so much more done during those fleeting school hours.
Finally, my fabulous TEACHERBOARDS glass noticeboard. Apart from looking super stylish with its glossy white finish (they also come in a range of bright colours) this is utterly practical too, meshing an old-school whiteboard with a modern magnetic backing.
I use it as my ‘on-the-go’ reference: it’s hung just to the right of my desk so I can keep important documents close to hand, and can see at a glance what’s coming up that week for me, and the girls.
TeacherBoards are refreshingly simple, but so effective; no more hurried trips back home because I’ve forgotten it’s Funky Shoes Day, or paying a premium because I missed the cut-off date for school photos.
Bring it on, 2016 – I’m ready for you!

Ooh I spotted two of these hanging on the wall at my sisters house last week they are brilliant!! Whenever I go to my sisters I always find fab new ‘must-haves’. This is next on my list!!!
What a great idea, although I was usually the one everyone used to ask about events coming up at school.
I love the idea of using teacherboards what an exceptional concept. It really does help you get organized doesn’t it?
I love the idea of that board, I think it would work so well in my office at home xxx
I really like the look of this! I could really do with one in my house – everything gets dumped in the little pocked attached to our calendar! This looks much better
I have one of these in my office, I use it for pretty pictures rather than making use of it x
This looks so fab – I am planning on being more organised this year and have my planners at the ready! Kaz x
Oh wow what a fab idea! That must be so useful!
I really need to get organised so this board looks ideal!
I have two large white boards in my kitchen, one for the kids to draw, practice spellings, numbers, etc and then I have one with dates of parties and events, rewards and multiple school letters so I don’t forget anything. I love it too!!
I couldn’t survive without my family planner! Need a blog one too to get more organised! x
Me too! I have so many ideas in my head, but I need to get them organised. The plight of the creative mind, haha! x
You sound ready for 2016. Good luck with everything.
Thanks Stella – I’ll need it, haha! x
I love this! I like that you can write on it and pin things to it with magnets. I’d love one of these to help me with wedding planning!
That’s why it’s brilliant Deanna, the fact you can scribble notes AND pin stuff to it. It would be perfect for a wedding mood board – when’s the big day for you? x
Boards are such a great idea, I love having everything organized too and I was usually saving things to do in my mobile phone but then as a new day started, I got excited about something else and I forgot to even check what I have written… Boards are great idea because you always see them!
