ANIMALCOLM // the fun new kids’ book from David Baddiel

As a kid you’d always find me with my head buried in a book. It used to drive my friends mad, as I’d go round to their house to play and spend the entire time sitting in a corner devouring their book collection instead.

I was ‘that girl’ walking down the street turning pages and almost walking into lamp posts. In fact, once I actually DID walk into a parking meter (remember those?!) and ended up with a lump the size of a cherry on my cheekbone.

I’d devour a book in a single sitting, then feel bereft because it was gone. The characters were so familiar by the end, and turning that very last page felt like I was saying goodbye to an actual friend.

My girls both enjoy reading, but Lil Sis has definitely inherited my passion. She’s racing through the levels in her Year One class, and begs me to read to her each night.

She has a quirky sense of humour, so I’m pretty sure she’d LOVE this new Harper Collins Kids’ title, AniMalcolm, by David Baddiel.

Baddiel might be best known as one of the UK’s funniest comedy writers, but now the whole family can enjoy his witty tales as he forges a new path into children’s books.

This somewhat surprising literary detour came after a  conversation with his own son, Ezra, prompted him to write ‘The Parent Agency’, which went on to nab the Lollie (Laugh out Loud) award for 9 to 13 -year-olds earlier this year.

His latest title is another side-splitting imaginative adventure that will appeal to any child who’s wondered what it might be like to be a bit of an animal…

ANIMALCOLM is the story of Malcolm – a regular boy who doesn’t much care for animals. But then he takes a school trip to a farm, where he’s forced to get up close and personal with a few different species, and some very strange things begin to happen…

But will these animal encounters actually help Malcolm to find himself?!

Visit Books By Baddiel for information on where to buy AniMalcolm, and to find out more about his other titles too. And if you pop over to my FACEBOOK page tomorrow, there’s a copy up for grabs. Good luck!

Sounds so fun. Can’t wait to get it for A (although very tempted to read it myself first – I do love a good kids book!). It’s in my amazon basket.
