Historically, an April photo would have me scrabbling for pics of rain, and umbrellas, and maybe an Easter egg or two.
However, a sneaky little high pressure system has seen me posting this shot instead – of Big Sis on a bridge-y thing at the gorgeous National Trust property West Wycombe Estate.
I took the gals there the other week when the temps soared.
It was a lovely day, spoiled only by the fact that the country house hadn’t opened yet, so there were no public loos on the main grounds. Not a good scenario for a recently toilet trained 2.5 year old (or her coffee-swilling mother, for that matter…)
So, on this sunny April afternoon we attempted our first ever al-fresco pee (the pre-schooler, that is, not me).
It didn’t go well.
First I had to convince Big Sis to forgo the toilet training seat completely, and graduate to that highly advanced but risky loo move – the squat.
Then I decided to completely ignore the great findings of Sir Isaac Newton by standing downstream. Bad move. Bad.
Still, it was a lovely, slightly pee-stained day, which cast a whole new light on the term ‘April Showers’.

gorgeous pictures, and well done on the toilet training I will get there eventually I just keep chickening out!
Lol! That’s really tickled me! My son is almost 3 and we’ve finally cracked on with potty training recently. It’s horrible! I’m going to need a new carpet after we’re done. At least his al fresco wees will be that little bit easier!
Lovely pic – looks gorgeous.
Bless her, boys are in no way any better, S suddenly decided he needed the loo when I was putting the shopping in the car and he peed on my foot! Gorgeous picture, love all the different shades of green! Emma 🙂
This is a beautiful pic and well done on attempting the outdoor pee! I remember my mum and dad struggling with me needing them many a time! x
Gorgeous photo 🙂
Beautiful photo and aaaargh is what I think about toilet training – I’ve had two false starts so far. I’m waiting for a few more kids at nursery to do it so that DD gets the idea.
I remember those days… my 9yo wanted the loo on our stroll last week. I told her to walk quicker as I knew where some composting toilets were. Whatever we do, especially the squat, it seems to cover her bottom half, so I still try to avoid it. Beautiful photo and very funny blog.
This is the same bridge Jennifer Conelly (as Sarah) crossed over in the oppening of the movie Labyrinth from 1986.
