Growing up I was never a frills and flounces kind of girl, and Big Sis is just the same; she’s much more at home in tracksuit pants and sneakers than dresses and pretty shoes.
Lil Sis, however, is the exact opposite. If she could walk around all day in a sparkly ball gown with ribbons in her hair, I’m pretty sure she’d be in heaven.
I’d bought her a denim jacket a while back, because I knew she’d look completely adorable in it, but she was always a bit reticent to wear it. Then I realised the problem… not enough flounce.
But it turned out the Frilly Fairy was on our side, as when we were in New Zealand I came across some iron-on patches, and on sale, no less. I snapped them up for a couple of pounds (bargain!) and brought them back home.
So last week I finally found that spare few minutes I needed to put my patchy plan into action.
I whipped out my fabulous Brabantia Botanical IRONING BOARD (you might remember me telling you about this last year, but – if not – this is literallly Rolls Royce of ironing boards; extra large, smooth to expand and collapse, fully height adjustable and so darn pretty to boot).
I placed the patches where I wanted them on the denim jacket, covered them with my Brabantia ironing cloth (another of my laundry staples) and ironed them each for 30 seconds.
Afterwards – voila! They looked like they’d always been there, don’t cha agree? In just 15 minutes it had been completely transformed from a generic chain store style, to a one-of-a-kind customised denim jacket.
I surprised Lil Sis with the ‘big reveal’ (yes, I watch too many makeover programmes) just in time for her to wear her revamped jacket to a birthday party, and she loooooooved it (squeals and claps).
Since then it’s been pretty much glued to her body, and I can’t help but feel a little bit chuffed.

Aww, thanks Kaz! I’m genuinely not crafty AT ALL, so even though it was just ironing on a few patches (pretty much idiot proof) I was really chuffed with how it looked. x
The jacket was cute before but it’s definitely better now! And seems simple enough.

So cool! I remember my sister doing this to her jacket as a kid!
I remember adding fringing to my old acid-wash jacket when I was about 14 (hey, it was the 80’s!). x
