Back in the olden days, my friends and I loved going bowling.
I was never very good at it, but that never mattered; it was loud and fun and affordable, and we always had a great time (except for the terrible bowling shoes they used to make you wear, which were clunky and slippery and always smelled horrendous – regardless of how much deodorising spray they squirted in between customers).
When we received an invite to visit our local Hollywood Bowl for a family bowling day, my first thought was that my girls were a bit too young. But then I checked out the website and was reassured by how brilliantly they catered for the littlies.
When you visit any Hollywood Bowl you’ll find a range of services to cater for families and children.
You can programme the bumpers to raise or retract for each individual player, so your kids (or grown-ups!) can avoid those discouraging gutter balls. They also have ramps, which the girls used to launch their bowling balls.
I wasn’t sure how interested they’d be in the actual bowling side of things, but they loved it! Even Lil Sis, who’s only two, had a blast pushing her ball down the ramp and watching it career down the alley. At one point, she was knocking down more pins than me.

Afterwards, we spent another hour playing the arcade games, which the kids absolutely loved. So much so, a certain someone didn’t want to go home…

We all had such a fun family bowling day, and we’ll definitely be going back to Hollywood Bowl.
