MY FAVOURITE TIME OF DAY // the brightest parts of parenthood

Favourite parts of parenthood - girls wrapped in towels

I haven’t had time to do a blog prompt in AGES, but when the lovely Sabina from Mummy Matters tagged me for ‘My Favourite Time of Day’ I knew I had to join in.

I sat down and had a good old think about my favourite parts of parenthood, and realised I couldn’t possibly limit it to just one time of day. In fact, there are several that deserve the warm, fuzzy spotlight, starting with first thing in the morning.

Now, to understand what a big deal this is, I need to give you a bit of back story: I’m not traditionally a morning person. Like, AT ALL! In fact I’m renowned in my family for being a snarling, abuse-hurling grump when I wake up. One time (albeit many years ago) I punched someone for daring to wake me up. True story.

So it comes as just as much of a surprise to me that first thing in the morning is now one of my favourite times of the day. It begins with one girl squawking in her cot, and the other flinging open the bedroom door and yelling: ‘I WAKE UP, MUMMY!’

I grab them both and we all pile into the bed where Lil Sis clambers all over me like a German tank, while Big Sis navigates my iPhone with frightening ease to watch episodes of Humf. Because, while I might wake in a stinker of a mood, their sunny morning smiles never fail to pull me out of my post-slumber funk.

Then there’s ‘Bubs Wakes from her Mid-morning Nap’ time. We’ve got a bit of a routine going now: Lil Sis will start whingeing, then Big Sis will point at me and yell accusingly, ‘You woke Bubba!’

We rush upstairs to get her out of the cot and pile on to the bed for cuddles. Then we play Lil Sis’s favourite game, where we pull the duvet over our heads and sit in our little undercover hut until it collapses around us, and we (I) get claustrophobic and start scrabbling for fresh air.

Oh, and I can’t forget bath-time – when the girls are clean and sweet-smelling, and looking so freakin’ adorable I just want to eat them up with a spoon.

Finally, I love peeking in once they’re sound asleep – jammed up against the cot bars, hanging half off the bed, arms and legs flung at strange angles.

So those are some of my favourite parts of parenthood. Don’t get me wrong – my day is not just made up of duvet huts, and rainbows, and giggles. Sometimes they drive me utterly BONKERS. On those days my favourite time is when I can finally pack them  off bed…

Sorry, not sorry.

Yay I’m so glad I enticed you back, that’s a lovely post. Your days sound surprisingly like mine, I’m not a morning person either but there’s something about the tiddlers waking me that I just don’t mind.

Thank you for joining in x

  2. My favourite time of the day occurs only on a week day and term time only.
It’s 7.05am once hubby has taken the boys to school, I run a hot bubble bath, put the kettle on and grab my book where I then stay for the next hour, ignoring the phone. Bliss
