If you’ve experienced life with a Toddler, you’ll know just how hard it is to keep them entertained, and out of trouble.
Which is why I was thrilled to stumble across a little lifesaver today, while carrying out the torture session known as the weekly grocery shop.
We’d been out all day completing chores, and by the time we hit the supermarket carpark the girls were tired and crotchety.
But just as Lucia’s whingeing neared dog whistle-pitch, she fell silent, extended a finger in the direction of the bakery shelf, and gasped. ‘Mummy, Yum!’
I followed her gaze to find a ‘Decorate Your Own Gingerbread Man’ kit. It was only £1.69, so I relented, and chucked one in the shopping trolley.
I figured she’d take one bite out of the Gingerbread Man, smear icing all over herself, get bored, and wander off.
Imagine my amazement when she spent the next half an hour carefully decorating him with Smarties and Fruit Pastilles.
Then, as if she couldn’t restrain herself for a millisecond longer, she shoved it in her mouth. ‘Mmmmmmm!!!’ she announced.
With a gaping hole where his Gingerbread leg used to be, he was placed to one side and a second man prepped for his very own sweetie suit.
I figured Lucia was working her way through the entire pack, leaving a trail of Gingerbread devastation, but to my amazement she handed him to me.
‘Mummy, you eat,’ she instructed, patting the seat next to her.
So we sat, side-by-side, munching on our matching Gingerbread men, sharing one of those little moments that makes a Mum’s heart melt.
And all thanks to Tesco! Who’d’ve thunk it??

I love decorate your own kits and if you are a time poor mum they are fantastic fun. I am a great believer in the fact children just love some one to one time with their parents and it doesnt matter doing what. I have just bought some ninjabread men cutters for the boys, can not wait to try them tomorrow!
