I’ve spent many an evening balancing wooden blocks on an increasingly wobbly tower.
You know what I’m talking about, right? Those stacks of wooden bricks where you each take turns to remove one from the main body, and place it on the top. The aim is to keep going until the tower collapses and crashes to the ground.
It’s such a simple concept but so much fun; the tension of teasing out a wiggly brick, the breath-holding when placing it back down on top, the elation when it holds… the crushing defeat when it doesn’t.

For years we survived with just the original table top version, but in 1997 the wooden tower world was turned on its head with the creation of the giant HI-TOWER Jenga-style game.
Inventor Stuart Cardy was about to celebrate his twins’ first birthday, and decided he needed something to keep the grown-ups entertained. A carpenter by trade, he whipped up an oversized version of the building block game. It was such a massive hit he decided to go into business with his brother and his sister-in-law.
(FYI: the pics are of the girls are playing a version of the game a couple of summers ago, but the Hi-Tower giant Jenga-style game is the original AND the best quality – the Rolls Royce of wooden tower bricks!).
Today BIG GAME HUNTERS sells hundreds of lines, including including trampolines, water and table games, swing sets and playhouses. But the Hi-Tower (and the other wooden block games that have since been added to the range) remains one of its most popular products.
Not just a brilliant back garden game in the summer, the Hi-Tower is also a fun way to keep everyone entertained at parties, Christmas… any time, in fact.
