BIG SIS & LIL SIS MEET SINGING GROUP KIDZBOP // celebrity interview

If I didn’t know better, I’d have thought a herd of elephants was having a dance-off upstairs.

The thumping and the music got louder and louder as I walked upstairs to the girls’ room, reaching a crescendo as I opened the door: they were both wearing party dresses, glitter eyeshadow sparkling festively and their hair tied up in elaborate ‘do’s.

‘Can we please keep the noise down to a dull roar?’ I bellowed over the din.

‘Sorry Mum,’ they both shouted back, arms flailing as they continued to throw some serious shapes. ‘It’s just this new KIDZBOP CD is epic!’ Big Sis elaborated. ‘Yeah,’ Lil Sis added, ‘they’re kids, just like us, but they sing and dance and they’re sooooooo amazing!!

I’d downloaded KIDZBOP 2018 album – 22 child-friendly covers sung by kids, for kids – for the girls a few days earlier, knowing they’d love the mix of their favourite pop songs, but I still hadn’t told them the really exciting news…

‘So, you know the KIDZBOP group..?’ I started. ‘Lois, Twinkle, Ashton and Max,’ Big Sis interjected. ‘Yes, so I have something to tell you… how would you like to interview all four of them, in real life, on Facetime?’

The girls stared at me for a beat, then both started squealing: ‘Ohmigosh Mummy that would be SO COOL!’ ‘Would we be speaking to actual KIDZBOP?’ ‘Will they be able to see us?!’

While we waiting for interview day we did a little research: KIDZBOP first started in the US in 2001, and have sold 17 million albums since. After extensive auditions throughout the whole of the UK last year, Twinkle, 11, Lois, 13, Ashton, 12 and Max, 13, were chosen to make up our home-grown version.

This super-talented team don’t just sing, they have all the dance moves too (think of a modern-day S Club Juniors, for those of us of *ahem* a certain age). Check out how the interview went, here:

Big Sis and Lil Sis had been so nervous beforehand but Lois, Twinkle, Ashton and Max were so friendly and down-to-earth – they were genuinely lovely, well-mannered kids. The girls were literally buzzing afterwards, then went back upstairs and blasted the KIDZBOP album at full volume until bedtime.
