If you’ve met me in person, you’ll know from my funny accent that I’m not from round these parts. The UK is the country I adopted 14 years ago, but my homeland is waaaaaay over the other side of the world in New Zealand. Which means my family are waaaaaay over the other side of the world too.
The girls adore their UK family and friends, but it makes me sad that they don’t get to see their Kiwi family – especially their two sets of maternal grandparents, Nana and Pop, and Nanny Jane and Poppa. Everyone knows that the sole purpose of grandparents is to mercilessly spoil their grandchildren; they don’t have to play disciplinarian or deal with the day-to-day mundanities of parenthood, so have the freedom to smother their grandkids in big, warm, oblivious-to-all-their-faults love.
Like most working Mums, my spare time is scarce. Coupled with a completely opposite time zone that means we’re awake when New Zealand is asleep, and asleep when they’re awake, and it’s hard to keep in touch with my parents as often as I’d like. But that doesn’t mean we don’t think about them, a lot.
So when we were invited by StressFreePrint to #SendTheLove this Valentine’s Day via an open letter, it was obvious who we wanted to send our special message to. I’ll let the girls take it from here…
‘To Nana and Pop, and Nanny Jane and Poppa, I had a nice day, I made some play doh. I wish I could cuddle you. Thank you for the money for Christmas; we got light- up shoes, and I love them. I love you. Kisses. Love, Lil Sis (4) xxxx.’
‘To Nana and Pop, and Nanny Jane and Poppa, I love you SO much! I hope you have a nice Easter and a nice Valentine’s Day. I wish you wasn’t far away, I wish you was close, I would come to your house one day to play with you, and give you nice cuddles and kisses. And I think you are very nice, can you come to my house one day? Love, Big Sis (6) xxxx.’
If you want to let someone know you’re thinking about them, send them some flowers from the Great British Florist. Or, even better, enter the Rafflecopter giveaway, below, and you could win yourself a £50 voucher to spend on the blooms of your choice.
