Childbirth. You hear the horror stories, but still convince yourself it’ll be different for you; that your experience will be filled with soft music, and scented candles and you’ll only require a cool facecloth, and a couple of paracetamol.
I had such a great pregnancy with Big Sis (bar some rather awful morning sickness) that I felt sure the birth would a breeze. I was 35, healthy, and went to the gym three times a week until I was seven months pregnant.
What could go wrong?! Erm – everything.
Because, as you quickly realise, once the process begins you have very little control over what happens next. That tiny baby you’ve been waiting to meet will do exactly what he or she wants, when he or she wants – often with total disregard to your carefully thought out birth plan.
It’s a good thing they’re so darn adorable, right Mums?
