I have four great loves in life: family and friends, our mini-sausage dog, Frankie, trashy television and getting a bargain.
There are a few things I refuse to scrimp on (good haircuts and my favourite Jo Malone perfume), but, generally, I don’t have expensive tastes. Perhaps its the Scottish blood in me (thanks to my Glaswegian grandfather) but I just adore getting a deal.
After our big renovation I decorated the then seven-year-old’s room with an enchanted woodland theme, but she’ll be 11 on her next birthday and was desperate for something a bit more grown up.
We still have a few projects to tackle around the house, so my budget was limited, but I promised I’d see what I could do. Luckily for both of us, George at Asda decided to release their spring range of designer look homewares on a budget, and it was PERFECT.
I quickly found this Black Wire 3 Diamond Wooden Shelf, top, for just £15 and snapped it up – perfect for holding the 10-year-old’s Harry Potter books. Next, I added this lovely, plush Grey Ombre faux fur throw, £20, to lay over her bed and give it a luxurious Scandi feel.
I couldn’t resist adding this Gold-Effect Eucalyptus Mirror to my basket too. The faux foliage on the side fitted in so well with the elegant botanical look we were going for, and at £10 it was just too good a bargain to pass up.
Finally, I picked up this set of four dusky pink photo frames, £7, to complement the soft, Scandi colour palette of grey, pink, green and mauve.
My entire haul cost just £52, but I could have easily spent double that, as they had such a great range of designer look homewares on a budget.
I lingered for a long time over this cute framed graphic print, £6, but couldn’t work out where to put it in the new room layout, so reluctantly left it behind.
I didn’t end up getting this Natural Woven Pom-Pom Basket, £20, either, but literally can’t stop thinking about it, so it’s highly likely I’ll be heading back to George’s range to pick it up (no doubt alongside some more fab designer look budget homewares).
