Horses and I never really got along.
Growing up in New Zealand, horse riding was a pretty standard pastime, but I never really understood the appeal. I tried riding them (horses, not Sweet Valley High novels) but – no offence to horse people – I just found it a bit ‘meh’.
So, while all my friends were rushing off after school to feed their ponies, and muck out the stalls, and all that horsey-related stuff, I was happy to sit in the corner, reading my Sweet Valley High novels.
I can already tell the girls will be different: Big Sis loves sport (she definitely does NOT get that from me!) and Lil Sis is completely obsessed with animals. The chances of me ending up at a riding stable in the not-so-distant future, dodging piles of horse manure, are probably pretty high.
WHEN CAN CHILDREN START HORSE RIDING LESSONS?
It seems I have a few years before I had to invest in jodphurs and riding boots, as the recommended starting age is 7 or 8. Apparently, this is because children at this age are more safety conscious, and aware of the possible dangers of horse riding, and old enough to understand and respond to simple commands. Practically, they’re also tall enough to sit more safely on a horse or pony.
However, children can be introduced to horses from around four years old, to get them used to the animals, and possibly even learn some very basic riding skills on smaller ponies.

Upto my teens i rode horses on a daily basis, i took a few years out and now i ocassionally get back in the saddle now whenever i can.. rio seems to love horses to so im guesaing at 3 the amount of money i made my parents spent will come back lile karma x
