Now I’ve been an Apple devotee since 1993, so it takes something pretty special to tempt me over to the Android side, but I have to hold my hands up and admit this ASUS MeMO Pad 7 is great quality, at a fantastic price.
I’ve been lucky enough to try many different tablets over the past four years – from regular ones, to those designed specifically for children – but none had really come close to the intuitiveness, speed and functionality of an iPad.
It took me 20 minutes or so to get familiar with its layout and design, but once I’d wrapped my head around it, I found it really user friendly. It had a powerful Intel quad-four processor, making it smart and fast. The 7-inch screen had a fantastic picture quality, and the sound was rich and clear (not tinny, like some smaller tablets). It was lightweight without feeling flimsy, and I loved the bright contemporary yellow colour of the case.
The girls loved it, and found the size perfect for watching movies – the screen was big enough for them to both comfortably watch, and the device small enough for little hands to easily hold.
But it’s biggest difference was also its greatest benefit; the fact the tablet was aligned with Google. So Google Search, Maps, YouTube, G+ and Chrome were all designed to work with this device, rather than the other way around.
But the best, and most surprising aspect of the ASUS MeMO 7, was the price – around £100. It’s one of the best value, quality Android tablets I’ve ever tried, and really gave my iPad mini a run for its money. Watch out Apple, it looks like you’ve got some serious competition!

This looks like a fab little tablet, the lower end of the price list is really coming up trumps at the moment with some great tablets for the kids.
