She barrelled down the road, the wind rushing through her hair, her legs a blur of motion. ‘Look Mummy!‘ Lil Sis shouted excitedly, ‘I riding a bi-kickle!’
And so she was.
It’s just one of those moments you remember forever, isn’t it? The first time your child rides a bike. In my day you started with training wheels that made you lurch from side to side, like a drunk man heading towards a kebab shop. Then, at some point the wheels came off, and you spent the next hour picking yourself up off your backside as you tried to figure out how to actually stay upright.
Thankfully, those clever designers have bypassed that awkward ‘falling-off-and-potentially-breaking-a-femur’ stage with the invention of the balance bike. Bereft of pedals, these cycles teach your child to build confidence and safely find their balance on two wheels, before eventually graduating to a pedal bike.
Lil Sis cut her cycling teeth on a Micro Balance Bike for Kids (made by the same company who make their much-loved Micro Scooters). The funky colours, super-lightweight frame and puncture-free tyres make it perfect for children aged 2-5 years, but, functionality aside, they’re just so much darn fun. Lil Sis was having such a blast, freewheeling down the road, that even I was tempted to give the Micro Balance Bike for kids a go (don’t worry, I didn’t).
Thanks Micro, for helping Lil Sis hit the road – figuratively, NOT literally!

Little Man has a balance bike and he absolutely loves it! Fabulous inventions. Your girly looks like she love hers too 🙂
The balance bike are fantastic for building confidence we used them and it took our eldest all of 15 minutes to be confident on a big boy pedal bike ! #countrykids
