BEDROOM OASIS (inspiring interiors)

As the days grow crisp and the evenings draw in, there’s nothing nicer than a warm, cosy room to entice you to bed each night.

I’ve worked from home for many years, so have learned the importance of keeping that one sanctum for myself – no laptops, no social media (except Instagram – that doesn’t count!) and NO kids’ stuff. The last one is the hardest to police, as Lil Sis loves to lie on the king-sized bed with me for story time, which usually means an assortment of stuffed toys get smuggled in with her.

Once the book is finished I let her drift off to sleep, then carry her back to the room she shares with Big Sis. It sounds like a faff, but I love our little routine – it’s the only time in the entire day when our attentions aren’t divided by the demands of work/school/life and we can just be together (in case you’re wondering, Big Sis always gets the same invite each evening, but prefers to watch cartoons on the iPad, or listen to one of her audio CD’s).

Once the girls are in bed I take advantage of the peace and quiet of the evening to make headway into my never-ending ‘To Do’ list, so it’s usually the early hours of the morning before I can turn in. When I finally stumble upstairs I love walking into a room that’s cosy and inviting.

I like soft, warm lighting, delicious scents, and a bed that’s calling my name, dressed in gorgeous bed linen.

Once you have your slumberful centrepiece, you can then create the luxurious space around it – soft lighting, artwork, vases of fresh (or well-made silk) flowers, fragrant candles and room diffusers, lush velvet pillows, and soft throws.

Et voila! The perfect bedroom oasis for those dark winter nights
