Look closely, my eagle-eyed fellow bloggers. The top photo featuring my lovely cousin Bronny being hoisted by an Italian barman, was taken in 1996 in Rome. The picture directly above, featuring aforementioned Bronny and me (sans Italian barman) was taken in 2007.
We deliberately sought out this bar, in the Piazza Navona, to recreate the original photo. You will notice the same shelves, the same sinks (though hopefully not the same cartons of milk).
What you won’t realise is we are also drinking the same shots we polished off that night in 1996 (Black Sambucca, since you asked).
The original night ended with me climbing into a fountain, being pulled out by the Carabinieri, and walking back to the hotel in my dripping wet Levi 501s. The night in 2007, thankfully, did not. Proof that I have learned some common sense over the years – contrary to popular belief.
