The girls started to get interested in gardening a few months ago; they’d both grown sunflowers at nursery and school and loved it. Then to my – I mean Santa’s – surprise they both requested seeds at Christmas time.
So when the Heinz Tommy K crew got in touch (Tommy K – tomato ketchup, get it?!) asking if we wanted to take part in their ‘GROW YOUR OWN’ kids’ gardening initiative, I thought it was a fun, educational project they could get involved with.
Today was the perfect day for planting, with mild temps and lovely blue skies. So we grabbed the Heinz tomato seeds we’d been sent, and got sowing…
Now it’s a waiting game while the seeds germinate, then the really exciting part – when our tomato plants sprout! The girls have loved it so far, so now I’m actually planning to fill an old wooden planter with soil to make them a mini garden where we can plant carrots and potatoes. Our own mini veggie patch? How very ‘Good Life’!
Not only will the girls get that satisfaction of growing something from scratch, and a biology lesson in the process, but – all going well- we’ll have some delicious tomatoes to eat and enjoy too! You can join in too – selected supermarkets are still giving away Heinz tomato seeds with bottles of their ketchup, but get in quick before the promotion ends!

I loved helping with the gardening as a child – still love it now! We’ve got our own vegetable plot at the bottom of the garden so am looking forward to all the yummy veg we grow this spring and summer. I hope your girls tomatoes grow brilliantly 🙂
