I’ve always had a fascination with World War II; as a 12-year-old I’d walk right past the Judy Bloom books to check out towering piles of war novels instead. ‘Do you realise these are very… grown up?‘ the librarian would ask. ‘Yep,’ I’d nod, and she’d finish stamping the cards, a slightly confused smile on her face.
When I moved to London, many years later, it was surreal to be in the place where so much of what I’d read about had actually happened – to walk along streets that had been reduced to rubble during the Blitz, to see Underground stations where families had huddled to escape the bombs overhead.
So I’m looking forward to reading this fab new novel, by super-talented author (and good friend of mine *proud grin*), Kate Thompson.
SECRETS OF THE SINGER GIRLS is a novel set in an East End clothing factory during the war years. But what is the dark secret our heroine Poppy is hiding..? Well, I’m not going to tell you, you’ll have to read it for yourself. In fact, click the link above and you can pre-order the paperback for just £3.85, or the Kindle edition for just £3.59.
To commemorate the official release of the book on Thursday, 26 March, Mummy’s Little Monkey has teamed up with the author extraordinaire to give away an ACTUAL Singer sewing machine! This one, to be exact:
Like what you see?! Then fill out the nice Rafflecopter form at the bottom and you’ll go in the random draw to win this sewing machine, and a copy Secrets of the Singer Girls. Two runners up will also receive a copy of Kate’s fantabulous book. And once you’ve done that, come back and check out this video – guaranteed to warm the cockles of your heart!
