I’ve always been super picky when it comes to jewellery.

I’ve mentioned before that I like mine to be simple and elegant – extravagant or colourful styles just look ridiculous on me; I even took my earrings out after 25 years because I looked in the mirror one day and they just looked wrong.

I like to think I’m channelling the Queen of understated style, Coco Chanel, who famously said: ‘Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off’, although the reality is probably that my features simply aren’t striking enough to carry off glitzy adornments – in the same way some faces suit lots of makeup, and others just don’t.

When I do wear jewellery, it’s very minimal and understated – a simple necklace or a bracelet, occasionally a dress ring. At most, I wear two together, but never all three. And I like them to have a little quirk or sense of fun about them.

Born in East Germany, Jana’s artist father began creating his own handmade jewellery as a way of adding glamour and luxury to the austerity of their lives behind the Berlin Wall. Jana followed in his footsteps, becoming a qualified artist and goldsmith.

She set up Jana Reinhardt in 2006, eventually joining forces with husband Ross Cutting, also a goldsmith. They now live in West Sussex with their two daughters and create their gorgeous creations from their seaside workshop in Worthing. 

Their handmade range is meticulously crafted and made entirely in the UK. Their whimsical designs consist of jewellery inspired by nature and include everything from sparrows and flowers to bunnies and butterflies.

Each piece is simple perfection – most coming in a choice of sterling silver, gold vermeil (a sterling silver base with a coating of 24-carat gold), and rose-gold vermeil. They also work with precious stones, creating exquisite ruby, black diamond, topaz, tourmaline and sapphire pieces.
