What do YOU need to be happy – love? Health? Chocolate? Three holidays a year..?
We’ve all heard the phrase ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’ but, according to a new study commissioned by Post-It Brand from 3M, one-third of us disagree. To those people the secret to happiness is earning an average of £80,840 a year, and living in a four-bedroom house worth £443,000. And, they want to earn this working just over 27 hours a week.
Not too much to ask, is it?!
The survey also revealed that 40 percent of people believe writing down their goals and dreams helps to #MakeItHappen.
Now, I’m a hardcore digital girl, but when it comes to my to-do list I’m totally old school; whether it’s a reminder to return Big Sis’ library book, or an analogue nudge to ring up about those swimming lessons, I use a good old Post-It notes stuck around the edge of my computer screen. When each task is completed, I tear it down with a smirk of satisfaction.
In fact, psychologists reckon that writing goals down actually makes them more achievable – that by putting pen to paper, you’re committing yourself to making them a reality.
But to truly be successful you need to be able to swerve out the way of life’s curveballs. As acid attack survivor and Post-It brand spokesperson, Katie Piper, can tesify:
‘You should never give up on your dreams, she says. ”Just be prepared to modify them, and continue to keep them at the forefront of your mind as life throws up different paths and challenges.’
Try if for yourself – write down your dreams, stick them up where you can see them, and make those ideasa reality. Even better… visit the MAKE IT HAPPEN website and fill in the form with a goal you’d love to achieve this year. Each month Katie will select her favourite (make sure they’re realistic!!) and award that person with £200 in vouchers to help make their dream come true. All winners will also receive a signed copy of her autobiography, ‘Start Your Day with Katie’.
Start writing, and good luck!
