This is my Mummy. Or it used to be, because if she sees that I’ve posted this photo she’ll probably disown me. Photos of Mum are like winter sightings of the White Bearded Tit – extremely rare.
But I’m willing to risk her wrath, because it was just perfect for this week’s Gallery prompt ‘MOTHER LOVE’.
This was taken in August 2008, when Big Sis was just a few weeks old, after Mum braved the horrendous non-stop cattle class flight over from New Zealand to meet her granddaughter.
I don’t know what we would have done without her, as the whole giving birth shebang didn’t exactly have the Earth Mother outcome I was planning. Instead I had an emergency c-section, was horrendously anaemic, and suffering from terrible migraines.
So while I looked after Big Sis, she looked after me – making cups of tea and pieces of toast, and taking the baby for a walk so I could nap.
Saying goodbye was pretty awful, as we knew it would probably be years before we all saw each other again. Sure enough, 2.5 years have flown by, and Lil Sis has now joined the family.
She hasn’t met her Nana yet, but I hope it won’t be too much longer before she does.
And here’s another photo – this time it’s one of me with Big Sis. It’s not the clearest, or prettiest pic of the two of us, but I’ve picked it because of the expression on my face – that look of utter adoration that every Mummy will recognise…
It must be hard not seeing your mum as often as you would like too. Its a lovely photo- your daughter is very cute x

Oh yes I know that expression. I believe I have a photo of me in hospital with that same look as I held my newborn.
I live only a few hours drive from my mom but it’s enough that when we do see each other I find myself in tears when I have to say goodbye. Not sure if I could live in a different country to her. You’re a strong lass! x

Emma: I really envy people who have their parents nice and close – although they’d probably complain that it was too close!! LOL!! x
Mummy Bean: It was really lovely seeing Mum with my daughter – they just adored each other! x
Christine: We keep saying to ourselves – next Xmas.. but then something comes up (money, house move, pregnancy…) One day we’ll get there!!! x
SAHM Loving It: It’s much harder now I have the girls – not just for childcare side (although that would be very handy!) but because I’d love them to grow up knowing each other better. x
Helen: You just get by, don’t you? A few hours is still a long way away, especially with modern life being so busy – I imagine it’s hard to find the time to visit as often as you’d like. x

Re the photo of you and Lil Sis: I love it when the baby is asleep and you can stroke that little face and smother it in kisses to your heart’s content.

Aw so lovely that your mum looked after you, mums really are great 🙂
My Dad lives in NZ and I feel the same about him not being able to see us all. He came over for my Granddad’s funeral in February and my son was born the day he went home. I was gutted he didn’t get to meet him.
